A Registered Apprenticeship is a structured training program that provides 1,300 to 5,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) in a specific trade. The credential is nationally recognized and portable, and apprentices receive a stipend that increases during the training period.
Registered Apprenticeship is promoted because it improves the skills of the industrial workforce and helps increase efficiency and productivity in industries by providing structured practical training.
A person between 15 and 28 years of age who meets the required qualifications for a specific trade can become an apprentice. The apprentice works under registered training standards and is officially registered with the concerned Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training.
An occupation can be apprenticeable if it is skill-oriented and recognized by TEVTA. Currently, more than 245 occupations are recognized as apprenticeable.
